Myrtle Irene Hurlock

CRUMPTON - Myrtle Irene Hurlock died on Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014 at Chester River Hospital Center. Born on Dec. 1, 1924 in Philadelphia, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Albert and Myrtle Lister Renye. On Aug. 6, 1942, she married Samuel Hurlock, Sr., who predeceased her in 2009. Mrs. Hurlock moved to Crumpton in 1960, where she was a member of the Crumpton United Methodist Church, and Crumpton Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, serving as the first president of the Ladies Auxiliary. Mrs. Hurlock also served as past president of Kent and Queen Anne's Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing and going out to dinner. She was preceded in death by her husband and one son, James David Hurlock. Mrs. Hurlock is survived by two sons, Samuel George Hurlock, Jr. of Crumpton, Md. and James Albert Hurlock of Crumpton, Md.; three daughters, Judith Ann Truitt of Ingleside, Md., Linda Carol Hamann of Crumpton, Md. and Janet Irene Boyd of Alexandria, Va.; one half-sister, Madline Metzler of King of Prussia, Pa.; fourteen grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, Millington, Md. where relatives and friends may call one hour prior (12pm-1pm). Interment will be in Crumpton Cemetery following the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Crumpton Volunteer Fire Co.
