Moira Whittington, 81
DOVER - Moira Whittington passed away peacefully Friday, January 8, 2021 at Courtland Manor Nursing Home. She had previously lived at Luther Village for many years.
Mrs. Whittington was born December 6, 1939 in Prescot, England to Reuben Witcherley and Frances Woods Witcherley. Mrs. Whittington moved to the United States in the 1960's, moving around with her husband during his military career until his last assignment to Dover in the early 1970's.
She worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant and provided home nursing care for several families in the Dover area, as well as working for area nursing homes.
Mrs. Whittington was very proud of her British heritage and returned to England as much as she could. She always enjoyed watching British TV shows, having her tea and biscuits, and visiting area stores that carried authentic English merchandise like Union Jack in Lewes, Delaware. She also loved going to the beach and listening to the waves. She was especially fond of spending time with her dear English friend, Doreen Stevens and grandson, Kai.
In addition to her parents; she was preceded in death by her daughter, Debbie Brown.
She is survived by her children, Kelsie Knight and her husband David of Dover and Joella Bower and her husband Mark of Camden; grandchildren, Valerie Knight and her husband Gabriel, Christina Brown, Kenneth Brown and his wife Kenzie, Amy Lancaster and her husband George, Cody Bower and Kai Bower; as well as six great-grandchildren.
The family is appreciative of the many Home Health Care agencies who aided in her care over the last couple of years. They wish to send a special gratitude of thanks to Georgia Houghton for her kindness and compassion during Moira's care. Moira thought the world of her.
Services will be private.
In lieu of flowers the family asks contributions to be made to the American Cancer Society in honor of her late daughter.
Letters of condolence may be sent and guest book signed at www.torbertfuneral.com
