Mitchell Greenwood 'Mitch' Pierson, 84
OCEAN VIEW - Mitchell Greenwood "Mitch" Pierson, of Ocean View, passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2008, at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes, after a short illness. He was 84.
Born Nov. 17, 1923, in Wilmington, and raised in Middletown, he was the son of the late Ruby T. (McCarns) and Horace W. Pierson.
Mitch was a U.S. Army veteran, where he served as a medic during World War II.
He worked for General Motors as a foreman for 35 years.
Mitch had a gift for making people feel comfortable and easily made friends with total strangers.
He always had a kind soft spot in his heart for all pets and animals.
Mitch had an ornery sense of humor and a love of life and laughter that he passed on to his children.
He spent his summers with his family, camping, boating and fishing at the Delaware beaches.
Mitch loved traveling, dancing, telling stories and especially loved going to the casinos with his loving wife, Mary.
He lovingly cared for Mary during her tragic decline in health.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Horace and Joe; and his eldest daughter, Sheryl Lorraine, on Feb. 16, 2008.
He is survived by his darling, beloved wife of nearly 62 years, Mary (Ennis) Pierson; his daughter, Michelle Pierson of Newark; his son, Mitchell Greenwood Pierson II of Ocean View; and his sister, Inez Collins of Middletown. He is also survived by his three beautiful grandchildren, Frank Scrivener III, Beth Brandt and Audrey Pierson; six lovely great-grandchildren; numerous wonderful nieces and nephews; and his caretaker, Kay Cooper of Laurel. All of them loved him dearly.
Mitch will be greatly missed by everyone who had the honor of being a part of his life.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown, DE 19709, where family and friends may visit one hour prior to service.
Interment with military honors will be at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.
