Miles A. Conaway, 81

LAUREL - Miles A. Conaway Sr. of Laurel passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2007, in his home. He was 81.

Miles was the son of the late Harold and Lida Conaway.

He retired from E.I. DuPont Co. in 1984, after 36 years of service as a machine operator.

Miles was a member of Mount Zion United Methodist Church, Broadcreek Grange 59, and Charity Lodge 27, Laurel, receiving a certificate of dedication for outstanding service and dedication to his brothers in the lodge and beyond the duties of his post as Warden of the Lodge.

In his early days, Miles enjoyed hunting and fishing. Recently he liked to watch TV, play Euchre cards, go to the slots and follow the Baltimore Orioles and Miami Dolphins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Hall; and a son-in-law, Greg Hammonds.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jean Conaway; a son, Miles Conaway Jr. of Felton; his daughters, Sandy Shipe and her husband Bob of Lewes and JoAnn Hammonds of Laurel; a brother, Earl Conaway of Laurel; two brothers-in-law, Jim Neal and his wife Barbara of North Carolina and Howard Neal of Laurel; his grandchildren, Regina Johnson and her husband Thomas of North Carolina, Roxanne Carey of Dover, Michael and Susie Shipe of Lewes and Kristen Brooks and her husband Dave of Middletown; his great-grandchildren, Haylee Cain and Danielle Cain of Laurel, Joseph Shipe of Lewes and Delaney Brooks of Middletown; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held in Hannigan, Short, Disharoon Funeral Home, 700 West St., Laurel, on Saturday at 1 p.m., where family and friends may call from noon to 1. The Rev. Randall Booth will officiate.
