GREENWOOD - Mildred Shaffer O'Day passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2010, at her home in Greenwood. She was 99. She was born on Jan. 29, 1911, in Johnstown, Pa., the daughter of the late John Shaffer and Carrie Hostetler Shaffer. She was married to Irvin O'Day, who preceded her in death on March 12, 1973. She was a lifetime member of the Church of the Brethren in Denton, Md. She was a homemaker and later worked on the School Bus as an aide to students. She loved quilting and spending time with her family. She is survived by eight children, Joyce Davis and her husband Howard of Seaford, Phyllis Brown, Doris Ross, Patricia VanVorst and her husband Donald, Paul O'Day and his wife Barbara, Janet Williams and her husband Horace, Linda Horne all of Greenwood and Lois Pritchett and her husband O'Neal of Milton; a son-in-law, Morton Marker of Glendora, Calif.; 24 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Kathleen Cole of Denton, Md. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Thelma O'Day and Gloria "Jeannie" Marker; and eight brothers and sisters. The following were her excellent caregivers over the years, Linda Horne, Lois Pritchett, Janet Williams, Doris Ross, Phyllis Brown, Joyce Davis, Yvonne Pippin and Crystal Gray. Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 28, 2010, at the Denton Church of the Brethren. Reverend Dawn Lare will officiate. Interment will follow in Denton Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 27, 2010, at the Fleischauer Funeral Home in Greenwood and one hour prior to the service at the Church.
