SALISBURY, Md. - Mildred Kipp Powers died Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2017 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Md. Born in Weehawken, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Hiram and Irene Schem Kipp. At the age of 21, she joined the Army Nurse Corps as an Army Nurse Captain. She served during World War II, caring for wounded soldiers in California, England, France and the Philippines. She moved to Salisbury, Md., in 2002, residing at Mallard Landing. She was active in The Samuel Chase Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She is survived by a son, Kip V. Powers, of Fruitland, Md.; a daughter, Gail Borgman of Rockport, Mass.; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a sister, Anne Brooks of Cortland, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard V. Powers; a daughter, Leah McGarr; and a sister, Irene Thomas. A funeral service was held Monday, Jan. 16, 2017, at Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury, Md.
