FREDERICA - Michael W. Hacker Sr. passed away Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016 at Bayhealth Medical Center in Milford. Mike was born in Groesbeck, Ohio on Oct. 24, 1941 to the late Benjamin & Ruth Jones Hacker. Mike served 28 years in the United States Air Force, including a tour in Vietnam, retiring in 1988 as a Senior Master Sergeant. Mike coached his two sons in football and baseball while he was stationed in Guam and Las Vegas. There was nothing that made him happier than spending time with his seven grandchildren. Mike could be found behind the bbq grill for family gatherings or sitting in the bleachers for games and practices cheering them on. He enjoyed watching the Cincinnati Reds & Bengals, doing crosswords puzzles, collecting stamps and coins and doing heath kit projects making stereos for himself as well as his friends. Mike called everybody "Bubba". He never had a bad word to say about anyone and his sense of humor lives on through the many stories of him. Mike's family will tell you that he was the smartest man they ever knew. His grandson said it best, "I didn't need google, I had Grandad". In addition to his parents, Mike is preceded in death by his brothers, Ben Jr., Jerry and Dave. He is survived by his lovely wife of 52 years, Pauline Kirk Hacker; his sons, Mike Jr. & his girlfriend Chris Eames and Ian & his wife Angie; grandchildren, Jeremy and his wife Courtney, Kyle, Jacob, Heather, Jared and his wife Myranda, Ryan & Tylr; great-grandson, Carson and a great-granddaughter due in June; one sister, Marylee Whalen; and three brothers Brian, Jim and John. A visitation with the family will be held from 1 pm to 3 pm on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at the Lofland Funeral Home, 102 Lakeview Avenue, Milford, DE. Burial with military honors will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675.
