Michael J. Szwed, 80

MILLSBORO - Michael J. Szwed of Millsboro, formerly of Jackson, N.J., passed away peacefully Sunday, May 20, 2007, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes, surrounded by his loving family. He was 80.

Michael was born in Wallington, N.J., son of the late Michael and Mary (Kobylarz) Szwed.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy.

Michael was employed by the Department of the Army as an electronic engineer for 30 years before retiring in 1995.

He was past president of the Lions Club, Montville, N.J.; a lifetime member of the Cape Henlopen Elks Lodge 540, Lewes; a lifetime member of Mason Dixon Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7234, Ocean View; and a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 28, Oak Orchard.

Michael was a musician who loved to travel, and kept busy working on the house or tinkering in the garage.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Irene (Zielonka) Szwed; a son, Michael J. Szwed and his wife Arlene of Darnestown, Md.; three daughters, Eileen Klinkatsis and her husband Tony of Weddington, N.C., Michele Szwed of Mahwah, N.J., and Renee Torre and her husband Michael of Jackson; three sisters, Wanda Paleskey, Agnes Bednarz and Bertha Monkowski; a brother, Edward Szwed; and six grandchildren, Amanda Klinkatsis, Rachel Klinkatsis, William Klinkatsis, Samantha Torre, Melissa Torre and Melissa Szwed.

Mass of Christian burial will be Friday, at 11 a.m., in Mary Mother of Peace Catholic Church, Del. 24, near Oak Orchard. A visitation will be Thursday, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Long Neck Road, Millsboro. Interment will be in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro.
