DOVER - Michael Donald Carey passed away peacefully surrounded by his family after a long battle with diabetes.
Michael was born, April 2, 1962, in Dover, Delaware to P. Donald Carey and Mary P. Murray Dooley. He graduated from Dover High School in 1980.
He started working for Glidden Paints in sales and stocking, after several years he joined the Carpenters Union Local 626 and worked with his father for John Healy & Son for 15 years, then worked for EDIS until he started working for Lowes as an installer, which he did until his health made him retire in 2016.
Michael was a member of the Union Lodge #7 in Dover, starting with the DeMolay where he held the office of Master Councilor and then followed up by becoming a Master Mason. He was a former member of the Elks Lodge #1903 where he volunteered in the kitchen, and a member of the Cheswold United Methodist Church. Michael was a motorcycle enthusiast and did Toys for Tots runs. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and enjoyed football.
He is survived by the love of his life, Karen Reith, who was also his caregiver; his father, P. Donald Carey and his wife Carol of Dover; mother, Patricia Dooley and her husband Bill of Dover; sisters, Donna Jean Carey and her husband Jerry Kishel of Bear and Donna Lee Parry of Dover; brother, Thomas Dooley of San Francisco, Calif.
Memorial services will be held 2 p.m., Sunday, February 6, 2022, at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. A visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m. For those unable to attend the funeral service there will be a livestream on www.torbertfuneral.com, it can be found under the "Upcoming Livestreams" tab and viewed by clicking on his name.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Shriners International Headquarters, 2900 Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, FL 33607 or ALSAC/St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
