Wallace Weller, 74
DOVER, Del. - It is with great sadness and a broken heart that I inform Family and Friends that my beloved husband, friend, Lover and Soulmate lost a courageous battle, and has gone to his final resting place to be with his heavenly family and friends who have predeceased him. His passing was unexpected, on June 25, 2022 at his home in Dover, Del. surrounded by his loving wife Linda Lee. Mel was under the Compassionate AMEDISYS Care Hospice program in Milford, Del.
Melvin (Mel) was a Delawarean, born at Kent General Hospital but resided in Hartly, Delaware until 1970 when Mel and his parents moved into Dover, Del. Mel started at the State Highway Department and decided to stay and make a career instead of going to college, Mel was known for being incredibly passionate about his work at the Department of Transportation where he was the Fiscal manager of the Real Estate unit for 31.5 years until he retired. He was given proclamations from the Governor, Senate and House of Representatives for his service at the State of Delaware. Right after that he worked at Cedar Chase Apartments as the leasing agent and then about 5 years later, he was asked to fill the Community Director's position for another 10 years. After that he was caregiver to both is father, Elwood W. Weller (who had ALS) and then his mother Frances M. Weller for over 15 years, living with us in Dover, Del. In 1973, he met the one, who would become his Friend, Wife, Lover and Soulmate for life, and they were married on November 14, 1981, making their home in Dover, Delaware. When not in Dover, Del. he resided at our beach residence in Rehoboth, Del. enjoying the beach life, watching the ocean, and walking the Rehoboth Boardwalk everyday and doing videos and taking pictures, putting them on his social media page for everyone to love & enjoy. Mel was a giving, caring and selfless person who would do anything for you. Smart and a perfectionist, almost to a fault. He was loved by everyone that knew him. He was extensively involved with the Delaware Hospice, Festival of Tree's program, The American Cancer Society function Heart Ball, and Miss Delaware Scholarship Organization, and Camp Rehoboth.
Preceded in death are parents, Elwood W. (Bud), (died - 1997) and Frances M. Weller (died - 2016), Dover, Del., Carlton C. (Dick) (died - 2010) and Kathleen Moran (died - 2014), Dover, Del.; and brother-in-law, William (Bill) Moran (died - 1995), he is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Linda Lee Moran Weller, Dover, Del.; his sister, Joyce Marie Dudasik, and her husband Delmar, Smyrna, Del.; Mel's brother-in-law, Lee C. and wife Julie Ann Moran, Smyrna, Del.; Sharon Moran and Michael Behm, Dover, Del.; niece, Jennifer L. Moran & Dominic; and several special nieces, nephews, and cousins.
There will be a Celebration of Life ceremony planned at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, Linda suggests memorial donations to Miss Delaware Scholarship Organization, in care of: Mrs. Mary Debus, 111 Lakeside Drive, Middletown, DE 19709 or Camp Rehoboth, 37 Baltimore Avenue, Rehoboth, DE 19971 (designate Attention: Melvin (Mel) W. Weller memorial donation).
