Melvin Dillard 'Bo' Sandidge Jr. RALEIGH, N.C. - Melvin Dillard "Bo" Sandidge Jr., 85, died Dec. 17, 2009, at Elmcroft Assisted Living in Raleigh after a period of declining health. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, friend, and neighbor. Bo was born in Dover, Del., on June 27, 1924, to Melvin Dillard Sr. and Ruth Esther Hynson Sandidge. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1942 - 1948. After returning to Dover, he worked as an installer for the Diamond State Telephone Company until his retirement in the 1980s. He married Doris Elizabeth Vincent in 1950, and they were happily married for 58 years, until her death in 2008. Bo and Doris moved to Raleigh in 1987. He is survived by two daughters, Brenda Sandidge Withers and husband Andrew of Raleigh, and Karen Sandidge Trast and husband David of East Windsor, N.J.; three grandchildren, Emily C. Withers of Saxapahaw, N.C., and Ellen R. and Eric W. Trast of East Windsor, N.J.; and two sisters, Barbara Sandidge Merrell and Mary Sandidge Walker, both of Dover, Del. A memorial service for Bo will be 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 28, at Hudson Memorial Presbyterian Church. The family will receive visitors in the church parlor immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hudson Memorial Presbyterian Church, 4921 Six Forks Road, Raleigh, NC 27609. The family would like to thank the good folks at Elmcroft and Hospice of Wake County for their kind and loving care of Bo in his final weeks.
