Melville Leaf Wolfe, 92

CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Melville Leaf Wolfe, of Chestertown, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2008, at Chester River Manor, Chestertown. He was 92.

He was born Nov. 25, 1915, in Govans, Baltimore City, son of the late Smallwood Leaf and Pearle (Casson) Wolfe.

Mr. Wolfe was educated in Baltimore County and was a graduate of Baltimore Business College.

He served his country as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy Reserves during World War II and in Japan during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in March 1952.

Mr. Wolfe worked in the shipping industry in Baltimore and with the Maritime Commission in Washington, D.C., as an assistant to the manager of marine operations at the War Shipping Administration for several years.

He was an active Boy Scout and Cub Scout leader and was also active in the Masonic Orders, receiving the York Cross of Honor.

Mr. Wolfe was a charter member of the Presbyterian Church of Chestertown where he served as deacon and was a founding member. He was also a member and past commander of the American Legion Post 192.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Jane; a daughter, Lanetta "Lanny" Parks of Chestertown; a son, James Melville Wolfe of Smyrna, Del.; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers.

Services will be 11 a.m. March 8 at the Presbyterian Church of Chestertown.

A private interment service will be held in Old St. Paul's Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Presbyterian Church of Chestertown, 905 Gateway Drive, Chestertown, MD 21620; or to a charity of choice.
