A Totally Milton Man MILTON - Medford S. King was born in Georgetown in 1928 to Clyde and Emma King, but lived most of his life in Milton where he was a large presence adding to the character and color of the town. Medford graduated from Milton High School in 1947. He joined the Army reserves in 1950 then signed up for active duty in 1952 serving four more years. He worked in the Milton Hosiery Mill when he returned home. From there he went to General Foods in Dover to work for the remainder of his career. Upon retirement, Med became involved in his community through the Milton Historical Society. Because he volunteered many hours at the museum, in 2008 he was awarded the status of Board Member Emeritus for his work. He strongly believed in the preservation of his hometown. Medford also attended Goshen Methodist Church where he was a long-time member. Med loved to socialize and could be seen most mornings having coffee or breakfast with his friends at the Federal Street Gallery. He also became very attached to the large, homemade cookies at The Backyard. He enjoyed summer concerts and events in Milton Memorial Park and eating his favorite ice cream at King's, a business his brother Earl started in 1972. Medford's love of cars and driving began with the purchase of a 1957 Chevy. Through the years this Chevy man bought several Camaros and Corvettes and enjoyed spending time cruising the roads of Sussex County until shortly before his death on June 8. Medford is survived by his sister-in-law, Wanda King, of Milton; his nephews, Tom King (Chris King), Ben King (Donna Ward), and Jim Riniker, of Lewes; his niece, Sandra Flynn (Kevin Flynn), of Churchville, Pa.; and many grand nieces and nephews. The last few weeks of Med's life were made easier due to the compassionate aid of his caregivers, Barbara Livingston (Griswold), Towanda Thomas, and Angela Davis. Funeral Services will be held Monday, June 13, 2016 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal St., Milton, where friends may call after 1 p.m. Interment will be held in Goshen Cemetery, Milton. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Milton Historical Society, P.O. Box 112, Milton, DE, 19968 or Tunnell Cancer Center, Suite 101, 18947 John J. Williams Highway, Rehoboth, DE, 19971 or Goshen Methodist Church, 103 Mulberry St., Milton, DE, 19968.
