Master Sgt. OJ Lindsey, USAF (Ret.), 72

DOVER - OJ Lindsey, of Dover, passed away peacefully Thursday morning Jan. 29, 2009, in Heartland Hospice Hospital in Wilmington. He was 72. Mr. Lindsey was born June 10, 1936, in Newberry, S.C., to Isaiah and the late Bessie Lindsey whom later moved to Woonsocket, R.I. Mr. Lindsey retired from the Air Force after 30 years of service in 1985 as a MSGT during which he was an Avionic Specialist Supervisor of junior crewman, a longtime member of the Air Force Sergeant's Association, as well as serving in the Vietnam War. He is survived by his loving wife, Julia Lindsey; daughters, Carol Tolson and Linda Jaeger; son, Philip Lindsey; brothers, Roger Lindsey, Walter Lindsey, David Lindsey; sisters, Bernice Harmon, Shirley Shelton, Dorothy Joe Lindsey, Sandra Butler; three grandchildren, PJ Lindsey, Dara Lindsey and Elijah Jaeger; and a host of nieces and nephews. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Thursday in the Bennie Smith Funeral Home in Dover. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday at First Baptist Church of Cheswold, where a viewing will be held two hours prior. Letters of condolences may be sent and guest book may be signed at benniesmithfuneralhome.com.
