Master Sergeant William P. Johnson

Master Sergeant William P. Johnson, 76, died on Sept. 4, 2018 in Dover. He served in the U.S. Air Force 20 years, retiring in 1985. During his service he was recognized with commendation medals for meritorious service and as a veteran of the Vietnam War received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross. After retiring from the U.S. Air Force he worked for the Presbyterian senior living community Westminster Village in Dover.
William Johnson was born on Feb. 20, 1942 in Neptune, N.J. to Earnest and Eleana Johnson. He had five siblings, Earnest Jr., Bernard, George, Ora, and Charles. In 1964 he married Irene Hagerman.
A loving and dedicated husband, father, and grandfather he is survived by his wife, Irene Johnson of Dover; daughter, Lisa Walls of Dover; son, William Johnson, Jr. of Glen Mills, Pa., and their families William Walls, Jennifer Johnson, Kayla Johnson, Brit Williams, and Olivia Johnson.
A private service is being held at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear where he will receive full military honors. As a lifelong lover of music, in lieu of flowers gifts can be made in his memory to the classical music and jazz public radio station to which he enjoyed listening: WRTI - c/o Bill Johnson, 1509 Cecil B.
