Mary Virginia Cornell

GEORGETOWN - Mary Virginia Cornell, age 92, of Georgetown, went to be with the Lord on Oct. 10, 2010. Mary was born April 15, 1918, in Hempstead, Long Island, N.Y. She spent the majority of her childhood living in Hempstead, N.Y., until she moved to Delaware where she called home. Mary was the executive secretary for the New York City Housing Authority for over 13 years. In her spare time, she enjoyed the company of her dogs, and she enjoyed watching baseball, especially her favorite team the New York Yankees. She could tell you anything about her beloved team. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Francis "Frank" C. and Mary Louise Cornell; and her sisters, Lillian Finspack, Eileen Goff, Amy Cantwell, and Marjorie Ann O'Day. She is survived by a nephew and his family, John, Lynn, and Kacie Goff of Florida; two nieces, Nancy Osborne of New York, and Amy Cacchillo of Florida; and several great-nieces and great-nephews, Sandy and Charles Foy of Harrington, Kenny, Cierra, Laura, and K.J. Foy of Farmington, Jamie, A.J., and Maxine Foy of Greenwood, Kelly Foy and David Callahan of Newark, Victoria Oberdick of Felton, Jerry and Josie Hayman of Harrington, Sheldon and Bettie Hayman of Milford, and Dallas Hayman of Houston. Services will be 11 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 14, 2010, at Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 S. DuPont Hwy., Harrington, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.
