GREENSBORO, Md. - Mary Margaret Spence of Greensboro died Monday, Oct. 15, 2007, in Ruxton Health of Denton. She was 87.
She was born April 4, 1920, in Greensboro, to the late John F. and Edith (Dill) Stevenson.
Mrs. Spence was a graduate of Bridgewater (Va.) College.
She was a schoolteacher for Ridgely School for several years, then went on to work for Caroline County Social Services for 26 years.
Mrs. Spence was the supervisor of the Food Stamp Program at Social Services, retiring in 1985.
She served as the secretary for the board of directors for Caroline Nursing Home.
Mrs. Spence was a member of the St. Paul's United Methodist Church, serving on the church board.
She was a den mother for the local Cub Scout troop and a member of the former Ridgely Homemakers Club.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leon E. Spence Sr., in 2003; one brother, George Stevenson; and one grandson, Ian Spence.
She is survived by two sons, Leon "Lee" or "Rabbit" E. and his wife Diane Spence of Frederica, Del., and John "Jack" Ellis and wife Sandy Spence of Salisbury; one daughter, Janet Spence and her husband Dave Dill of Greensboro; one brother, Donald and his wife Doris Stevenson of Maryland; two sisters, Ellen and her husband Gill Scarborough of Wilmington, and Jeanette Durnstein Brown and her husband Tom Brown of Virginia; one niece, Penny Williamson of Bridgeville; two grandsons, Sean Spence and his wife Amber Garnison and Noah Spence.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Friday in the Fleegle and Helfenbein Funeral Home, 106 W. Sunset Ave., Greensboro.
Interment will be in Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery, Hurlock.
