Mary Margaret Irwin, 88
Our precious mother, Mary Margaret Irwin, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, September 8, 2022.
Originally from Altoona, PA. She met her husband, John Irwin (preceded in death in 2013) in Wilmington, DE and they eventually moved to Camden, DE in the 1970's where she lived most of her adult life. Mary and John were well known in their hometown of Camden and had many friends. Mary was devoted to her husband of 60 years and worked side-by-side with him in their trucking and farming businesses. She loved roses and gardening. She was also known for her large produce stand.
Mary is survived by her five children: James Irwin, Doris Leonardo, Daniel Irwin, Doreen Polanco, and Karen Irwin. She was grandmother to Christopher Jones, Johnny and Cindy Irwin, Kimberly Rivera, Kelly Phillip, Jeremy and Stephanie Johnson, Joshua, and Amy Irwin. She had eleven great-grandchildren.
She spent a lot of time with her four oldest grandchildren but loved them all. She had a great laugh and was very supported to her children. She was so proud of them all. She often stated that she did a good job raising them because they all turned out well.
As her health was declining, she often mentioned her parents and how much she missed and wanted to see them. She loved family and loved when they came to visit. Mary always said that all mothers should go straight to heaven. She loved being a mom even though it could be challenging with five head-strong and determined children. She was loved dearly, and her family will miss and think of her often. They know she is in heaven with the Lord and at peace.
Funeral services will be Saturday Sept. 17, 11 a.m. and can call one hour before the services at St. John's Lutheran Church Dover, burial will be at Sharon Hill Memorial Park Dover.
Letters of condolences may be sent to www.traderfh.com
