My Life History
Dagsboro - My name is Mary Magdelane McCall Hall. I'm the daughter of the late Mance McCall, Sr. and Georgiana Dyer McCall of Berlin, Maryland.
October 20, 1933, I was born in Bishop, Maryland. I attended the Worcester County School in Maryland. When I was in school, I was the only girl in my class to assume truck driving. It paid off after my graduation. January 15, 1950, I married my dream truck driver husband, the late John Wesley Hall, Sr. Out of this marriage, we had four sons and three daughters.
I later went back to school to assume trades in craft, electric welding, sewing, and truck driving. Truck driving is where I got to drive and travel beside my husband, who had over 60 years in service driving a tractor trailer. This was a lifetime opportunity that took us over half of the United States and Canada. We traveled to places like Nova Scotia and New Mexico over a dozen times.
In 1980, The Eastern Star became part of my life. I was a member of Rehab Court No. 3, Heroines of Jericho P.H.A. My biggest joy was having conversations with my sisters, Queens of Sheba and the Lily of the Valley. I am thankful and glad to be an Eastern Star Member.
Spending time with my family and friends, cooking, making my special sweet potato pies, traveling, special occasions, and "Celebrating My Birthday" is what I enjoyed most.
St. John AME Church, Bishopville, Maryland is where my Christian journey began. My husband and I had a traveling Music Ministry, where we were a blessing to Union Wesley UMC, Dickerson Chapel AMEC, and St. Matthews Baptist Church. Every month we visited Nursing Homes and various Churches giving out Daily Breads. Upon becoming ill, I continued to pass out Daily Breads through my children and grandchildren.
After the passing of my husband, I joined Antioch AME Church under the leadership of the late Rev. James H. Foster, and later under the pastoral leadership of Pastor Dania R. Griffin. Here, I was a member of the Women's Ministry, Lay Organization, Women's Choir, Unity Gospel Choir, Lucy Davis Women's Missionary Society, and Sunshine Greeter, sending cards to members of my church, family, and friends in the community for all occasions. When I wasn't sending cards, I was always on the phone checking on the sick and shut in. God has always been first in my life, and his work is needed. "Any Way You Bless Me Lord, I'll Be Satisfied."
Friday, September 9, 2022, at our home in Dagsboro, DE, I peacefully transitioned to eternal life, surrounded by my family. In addition to my parents and husband, I will be joined in heaven by my sister, Lily Mae Gaines; brothers, Claude Henry McCall and Mance McCall, Jr; son, Billy Hall; grandson, Jervone Hall; and great grandsons, Jeffrey and Jekenlee Taylor.
All my love and memories will be cherished by my six children, George Anna Purnell (James), John W. Hall Jr. (Cassandra), Michael Hall (Toni), Tyann Hall, Tanya Griffin (Elisha), Paris Hall (Linda); two daughter in-laws, Eva Hall and Jackie Hall; sixteen grandchildren; Jonathan, Gwendolen, Teresa, Darnell, Shana, Hilary, Renata, Corinda, Billy Jr., Tervone, John W. III, Philip, Daisey Calyse, Victoria, Briana, and Brittany; thirty-five great grandchildren, seven great-great grandchildren, one sister in-law, Peggy McCall, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
Don't be sad for me, be happy!
