Mary Lou (Bakker) Kenny, 61

CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Mary Lou (Bakker) Kenny of Chestertown died Monday, May 7, 2007, as the result of a motor vehicle accident. She was 61.

Mary Lou was born in Queens, N.Y., on Sept. 21, 1945, the daughter of Joseph Antoine and Josephine (Dziuba) Bakker of Dunnellon, Fla.

She graduated from Richmond Hill High School with the class of 1962.

Mary Lou worked as an executive secretary for the president of K.L.M. (Royal Dutch Airlines) for several years.

In 1969 she married Thomas Michael Kenny, and they resided in Bensalem, Pa., and Paoli, Pa., before moving to Glenmoore, Pa., where they resided for over 25 years. During this time, Mary Lou raised her three daughters on their farm, "Innisvail Farm."

In Pennsylvania, Mary Lou was a member of the Twin Valley Garden Club, Ohara School of Ikebana (Japanese flower arranging), and Stonewall Golf Club.

In 2003 she moved to Chestertown, where she was active with the Chester River Chorale, Shrewsbury Episcopal Church and Rock Hall Yacht Club. She also worked part time at Pride and Joy Children's Clothing Shop, Chestertown.

Mary Lou enjoyed bicycling, traveling, gardening, golf, tennis, boating and was a master of Ikebana Japanese flower arranging. She also loved music, movies, art, culture, knitting, needlepoint, photography, animals, the theatre and socializing.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is survived by three daughters Sonja Jean Kenny of Cambridge, Mass., Tara Lynn Kenny of Arlington, Mass., and Regina Ann Kenny of New York City; a sister, Alida Bakker-Castorano of Alverson, Pa.; two brothers, Gerard Bakker of Tuscon, Ariz., and Allen Bakker of Katy, Texas; along with her grandson, Willem Kenny Spek.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. in Shrewsbury Episcopal Church, Kennedyville. Relatives and friends may call Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Road, Chestertown. Interment will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the conservation cause of choice. Arrangements by Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, Chestertown.
