GREENSBORO, Md. - Mary Katherine Patterson of Greensboro departed this life Tuesday, March 27, 2007, in Caroline Nursing Home in Denton. She was 91.
She was born June 13, 1915, daughter of the late Sarah Virginia Price and George Wilson Murray.
Mary attended Greensboro Elementary School and graduated from Lockerman High School.
She was married to Guy Patterson for 60 years, whom preceded her in death in January 2000.
After she and Guy married, she started working for Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Jarman, she remained with them for 45 years. During that time she was converted into Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school.
Mary also belonged to the Stewards, the United Methodist Women and Board of Seven of Caroline County Nursing Home.
She was a member of the Fellowship Chapter 58 Order of the Eastern Stars, Past Loyal Lady Ruler, Order of the Golden Circle 284 John J. Jones Jr. Assembly of Salisbury, Md.
During her life she had a wide circle of friends and was greatly loved by those she met. She was often called Cassie or Aunt Cassie by those closest to her.
She is best remembered for her homemade hot rolls, cakes, pies and Christmas Jell-O. She also raised three nephews, Barron Murray of Portland, Ore., Shawn Murray of Dallas, and Tony Smith, who preceded her in death.
She is survived by one brother-in-law, Joseph Seymore Sr. of Dover; one sister-in-law, Betty Murray of Harrington; two devoted nieces, Alice M. Brown of Dover, who was also a devoted caregiver, and Shirley Thompson of Greensboro, Md.; a beloved nephew whom she considered a grandson, Kurtis Thomas of Salisbury, Md.; and a host of other nieces, nephews and cousins.
A viewing will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday in Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church, Greensboro, where services will be 11 a.m. Saturday. Friends may view two hours prior to service.
Burial will be in Cokers Cemetery in Greensboro, Md.
