Mary Ellen Short

BALTIMORE, Md. - Mary Ellen Short of Baltimore, Md., formerly of Wyoming died on May 31, 2017, at her home.
Mary Ellen was born on May 28, 1946 in Dover. She graduated from Caesar Rodney Senior High School in 1964, received a nursing degree from Church Home and Hospital School of Nursing in 1967, an Associates degree from Essex Community College in 1974 and a BS degree in nursing from the University of Maryland School of Nursing in 1982.
She worked as a nurse at Church Home and Hospital in Baltimore, Md. for 32 years and another nine years at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore until Mary Ellen's health forced her to retire in 2005.
She enjoyed knitting and was an avid cat lover. For more than 50 years, she proudly exhibited her knitting and vegetable items at the Delaware State Fair.
Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, Horace E. Short, Sr. and C. Elizabeth Hollingsworth Short.
She is survived by her siblings, H. Edward Short, Jr. (Lucille) of Glasgow, Thomas C. Short (Monica) of Dover and Elizabeth A. Sperati (William) of Wilmington. In addition, Mary Ellen is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She never married.
Friends my call on the family at 10 a.m. Friday, at the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 West Camden-Wyoming Avenue, Wyoming. Services will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in Baltimore, Md.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Faithful Friends Animal Society, 12 Germay Dr, Wilmington, DE 19804 or the charity of your choice.
