DOVER - Mary Ellen Gonzalez "Bright Hummingbird" passed away Friday, Jan. 19, 2018 at Kent General Hospital.
Mary Ellen was born March 23, 1930 in New Jersey to the late Mason F. Seeney, Sr. and Lydia A. Hughes Seeney. She and her family moved to Delaware in 1933 and she is the last of seven siblings.
She was a machine operator on the wipes machine for Scott Paper P&G retiring in 2001 after 20 years. Mary Ellen had also worked for Leeds Luggage in Clayton and Hilltop Nursing Home in Dover. She was a member of the Nanticoke Indian Association and the Lenape Indian Tribe of Delaware. Mary Ellen enjoyed watching NASCAR especially the Hendricks Motor Sports drivers. She also enjoyed reading, embroidery and loved watching all types of basketball and tennis.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Victor Gonzalez; siblings, Leona, Martha, Perry S., Mason F., Jr., Mortimer and Walton Seeney; daughter, Colleen Winchester.
She is survived by her daughter, Kimberly Dixon (Greg) of Smyrna; grandchildren, Sonya Taylor (Howard) of Florida, Julia Stone (Chris) of Georgia, Sarah Koehler of New York, and Daniel Koehler of Okolahoma, Kimberly Kirschenbaum (Greg) of New York, Tracy Clark (David) of Dagsboro and Michael Taylor of Dover; great grandchildren, Maiah and Aja Taylor of Florida, Jasmine and C.J. Stone of Georgia, David, Jr. and Allyson Clark of Dagsboro, Emily Taylor of Kentucky and Dylan Taylor of Dover; sister-in-laws, Rubie Seeney and Evelyn "Joan" Seeney both of Dover; special friends, Mark Townsend, Marie Garrison, Gloria Jones, Lillian "Aunt Mae" Collins and Wanda Parton; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends who will miss her dearly.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Friday, Jan. 26, 2018 at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. Friends may call one hour prior. Interment will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.
