Mary Elizabeth Sudler, 67
Mary Elizabeth Sudler was born August 9, 1953 in Wilmington, Delaware to Cora Jeanette Elliot and the late Ollie Bratcher Jr. She was the loving mother of three children.
She enjoyed playing bingo, dancing, talking to family, and playing games on her phone or tablet. Mary was a kind, gentle, and sensitive soul. Wherever she went, she left a lasting impression on those she met. I recall an incident when I was a child where we met an older gentleman sitting outside in distress. My mom asked if he was ok and after he explained his situation, she invited him to our home to use the phone and he had breakfast with us while he waited for his family to come and get him. Another example of the effect she had on people is when she was a resident at Hillside Center, a nursing home in Wilmington, Del. Mary had only been a resident there for just a few months and she was asked to become President of the Resident Council Committee. She took this role very seriously and would speak up when she felt that a fellow resident was not receiving adequate attention. No matter what others thought of someone, Mary avoided making value judgments about them and always looked for the good in them. She showed grace and mercy and was able to connect with people in a special way.
Mary Elizabeth Sudler went home to be with the Lord on February 13, 2021.
She is survived by her three children, Karen Sudler-Barcita (Joseph) Dover, Del., LeVar Maxwell (Demettra) Elkton, Md., and Letecia Tiller Dover, Del.; six grandchildren, George, Aaron, Vera, Anoye, Asha and Aiden. She is also survived by her brothers, Greg Bratcher, Lindsey Bratcher, Donald Bratcher, Christopher Moore, and Kenneth Pritchett; sisters, Angeline DeJarnette, Miriam Larkin, Lenora Hicks, Myra and Tammie Lindsay, Alice Bratcher, and Christy Moore.
Mary was preceded in death by her grandparents, Ollie Sr. and Evelyn Bratcher; brothers, Ollie Bratcher III and Randy Martin; and her grandson, Johnny Murphy Jr.; and Mom Rena.
A private family graveside service will be held on Sunday, Feb. 21, 2021 at Sharon Hill Cemetery, Dover, Del.
