Slaughter, 81 FREDERICA - Mary Elizabeth Slaughter passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at Christiana Hospital in Newark, Del. Mrs. Slaughter was born Sept. 28, 1931 in Blackiston, Del., the daughter of the late Charles and Grace Spencer. She retired after many years of work as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Mary enjoyed gardening, flowers, and yard work. She also enjoyed sewing and spending time with her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank W. Slaughter; her son, Larry Slaughter, Sr.; her daughter, Diane Brown; her grandson, Herbie Slaughter; her great grandson, Dakota McCall; two brothers, Sonny and Kenneth Spencer; and two sisters, Myrtle Buckle and Virginia Spencer. She is survived by her son, Herbert Slaughter and his wife Hilda of Clayton, Del; her daughter, Darlene Cox and her husband Ken of Harrington, Del; nine grandchildren, Terri, J.R., Lisa, Rocky, Nikki, Carl, Benny, D.J., and Dustin; 17 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; six brothers, Bill, Harry, Tom, Eddie, George, and Troy; and two sisters, Aggie and Grace Ann. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, April 18, 2013 beginning at 10 am in the Faries Funeral Chapel located at 29 S. Main St. in Smyrna, where funeral services will begin at 11 am. Burial will be held in Sharon Hills Memorial Park in Dover, DE. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Delaware Hospice, 911 South DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901 or to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund (JDRF), 26 Broadway, 14th Floor, New York, NY 10004.
