Mary E. "Betty" Fleetwood, 89
DENTON, Md. - Mary E. "Betty" Fleetwood of Denton, Md. went to be with the Lord Saturday, Aug. 4, 2007, at the Caroline Home for Hospice. She was 89.
Born in Media, Pa., Mrs. Fleetwood was the daughter of the late Randall H. Knox Sr. and Elsie Mae Hatfield Knox.
Mrs. Fleetwood grew up in Harrington where she attended high school.
She and her husband had managed the Bata Shoe Store in Denton and had managed two restaurants at the Caroline Sale Barn near Denton.
Mrs. Fleetwood had taught tap dancing and aerobics, and had taught swimming at her home with her daughter for many years.
She had also worked as a buyer for Hess Apparel in Easton for many years.
Mrs. Fleetwood and her husband had been active in the Caroline County and Talbot County Prison Ministries for 35 years where she became known as the Praying Hands Lady.
They were members of the Gideon Society and were active members of the Fairview Church of the Brethren near Cordova, Md., where she was a lifetime deacon.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, E. Douglas Fleetwood Sr. on April 26, 2005; two sisters, Evelyn Thompson and Laura Bowdle; and one brother, Randall H. Knox Jr.
Mrs. Fleetwood is survived by one daughter, Dottie F. Williams and her husband, John of Cordova; one son, E. Douglas Fleetwood Jr. and his wife, Norma of Salisbury, Md.; one brother, William Knox and his wife, Edwina of Denton; one sister, Dottie Wiley of Ocean View; five grandchildren, John F. Williams III and his wife, Kim, Joni Kolakowski and her husband, Brian, Leah Cook and her husband, Lee, Keith Fleetwood and his wife, Mindy, Julie F. Lewis and her husband, Trent; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday in the Fairview Church of the Brethren, where friends may call one hour prior.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests sending memorial donations to the Fairview Church of the Brethren, 11243 Chapel Road, Cordova, MD 21625; or to the Caroline Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 362, Denton, MD 21629.
