Mary Cornelia Terry, 67

MAGNOLIA - Mary C. Terry, of Magnolia, departed this life on Thursday, June 5, 2008, at home with her family after a courageous fight against lung cancer. She was 67.

Mary was born in Scottsburg, Va., on Dec. 8, 1940, to Bertha Clark and the late Woodrow Wilson Clark.

She received her primary education in Virginia.

The family eventually migrated to New York City where she attended Morris High School in the Bronx, N.Y.

She also attended and graduated from Monroe Business School in Bronx, N.Y.

Mary worked for approximately 30 years in various administrative and data entry positions before concluding her working life after 18 years with Citibank.

Mary was a longtime member of the Friendship Free Will Baptist Church in the Mount Vernon, N.Y., where she lived for most of her adult life.

She loved shopping, sewing, reading scripture, the casinos, spending time with her family and a good laugh.

She was preceded in death by her father, Woodrow Clark; and her brothers, Wilson Barksdale and Joseph Clark.

Mary leaves to cherish her memories, her mother, Bertha Rogers; husband, James L. Terry; sons, Joseph Scruggs and Jason Terry; her brother, Lynwood Barksdale; her sister-in-law, Dolly Barksdale; her daughters-in-law, Patricia Scruggs and Stacey Belle; her grandchildren, Adam, Zoe, Naeem and Havilynn; and a host of family and friends.

Mary was a well liked and admired member of her community. New acquaintances often felt drawn to and warmed by her presence and conversation. She touched many lives with her generous spirit and loving nature.

Viewing will be from 5-7 p.m. today in the Solid Rock Baptist Church, Dover.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in the church.

Interment will be in the Lakeside Cemetery, Dover..

Arrangements are being handled by Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Dover.
