Mary Carlin Leahey, 85 DOVER - Mary Carlin Leahey, 85, formerly of South Nyack, N.Y., died peacefully at home in Dover, on July 6, 2010, sustained by the love of her family and strong Catholic Faith. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Frederic T. and Anna Byrne Carlin. Raised in Monroe, N.Y., she was graduated from Thevenet Hall Academy in 1942 and Manhattanville College of the Sacred Heart in 1945. On Aug. 10, 1946, she married Lt. Edward B. Leahey, MD of the US Army Medical Corps. They later settled in South Nyack, N.Y., where Dr. Leahey spent his career in private orthopedic practice, and Mrs. Leahey was a homemaker and loyal volunteer for the Cub Scouts, the AAUW, the Nyack Hospital Women's Auxiliary, and the ladies of Charity. Mrs. Leahey was also a devoted member of St. Ann's Parish. After retirement, Dr. and Mrs. Leahey traveled extensively and in 1996 they moved to Dover where they became active in the Holy Cross parish and the Camden-Wyo. Rotary Club. In March of this year she was formally inducted into Rotary. She also volunteered at Kent General Hospital dedicating more than 1000 hours of service in pre-admission testing. Mrs. Leahey enjoyed membership in the Century Club's Literary Group, in the Blue Hen branch of the Red Hat Society and especially in the "Eight O' clock Mass Breakfast Group. Besides her parents Mrs. Leahey was predeceased by her husband of 60 yrs., Dr. Edward B. Leahey, Sr., MD; and three sons, Edward B. Leahey, Jr. MD, Michael I. Leahey, and Joseph F. Leahey. Surviving are daughters, Frances and husband Bruce Johnson of Dover, Mimi Leahey and husband Scott Nangle of West Nyack, N.Y., Anne Leahey and husband Jacob Salomon of Bellmore, N.Y., Patricia and husband Christopher Meriam, MD, of Barre, Vt.; daughter-in-law, Lynn Leahey of Irvington, N.Y.; grandchildren Gregory Paul, Jr., Alison and Thomas D'Auria, Wm. Harry and Joseph Nangle, Edward, Niklaus and Adea Guldi, Silas and Rose Meriam, Jack and Kate Leahey; sister, Anne Mulroy of Belmont, Mass.; five nephews, a niece, and 14 grand-nieces and nephews and beloved cousins. Friends may call Friday eve. July 9, 2010 from 6 until 8 p.m., at the Funeral Home of Michael J. Ambruso 1175 S. State St. Dover. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday 9:30 a.m. in Holy Cross Church in Dover. The family will also receive friends on Sunday eve. from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Hanneman Funeral Home in Nyack, N.Y. Interment will follow on Monday July 12, 2010, in St. Anthony's Cemetery in Nanuet, N.Y.
