HARRINGTON - Mary Ann Collins, of Harrington, passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at her home with family by her side, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 63.
She was born Sept. 21, 1944, in Greensboro, Md., to the late Robert and Nettie (Seward) Melvin.
She was a member of Calvary Wesleyan Church in Harrington and the Wesleyan Church in the Delmarva District.
Mary Ann started her career as a registered nurse in 1984 at Milford Memorial/Bayhealth Medical Center where she later retired.
Throughout her career she also held many positions including Director of Nursing at Wesleyan Health Care Center and Westminster Village Health Care Center.
Mary Ann enjoyed going to antique shops, making crafts, camping and southern gospel concerts.
She also enjoyed spreading God's message to children and adults alike with a puppet ministry.
In addition to her passion for nursing and serving God, she was also a great cook and hosted many dinners.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy M. Reed Mervine.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Alfred Jim Collins of Harrington; son, Mark J. Collins; daughter, Dawn Lynn Collins; brother, the Rev. George A. Melvin; and sister, Barbara Savage.
Celebration of life services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in Calvary Wesleyan Church, Harrington, with Pastor Ken Figgs officiating.
Burial will be at the Greensboro (Md.) Cemetery.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday in the Calvary Wesleyan Church, Harrington.
The family requests that memorial contributions be given to Delaware Hospice, 911 Lotus Plaza, Dover, DE 19901.
