Martha Gallaghar

GEORGETOWN - Martha Gallaghar passed away Dec. 11, 2010, in Delaware. She was born March 13, 1937, in Columbia, S.D., as Martha Elizabeth Clark. She grew up in Chicago, Ill., and attended St Mark's Lutheran Grade School, and Luther North High School. Martha received a scholarship to Valparaiso University in Indiana. Martha began her career with the Foreign Embassy of the USA. For many years she served with distinction in the United States and abroad as a Government Employee with the CIA. She began in South Africa, and had many various tours of duty in Asia, Ethiopia and Ghana. Her last post was in the America Embassy in London, England. After she retired, she attended the Univ. of Maryland for two years and passed the Certified Income Tax exams; and became an Enrolled Agent (EA), authorized to practice before IRS. She was devoted to volunteer services; serving as an officer of the Indian River Acres Property Association and Central Intelligence Retired Association. Martha was full of life. She loved the museums, ballet, arts, music, and gourmet cooking, traveling and reading. Martha was a loving generous person and will be missed greatly. She is survived by her husband, Bob Gallaghar; daughter, Kristin Lindsey; and her step children, Patricia Reilly, Robert L. Gallaghar, Susan Gallaghar, Kathryn Seddighzadeh, and Carol Roalkvam; and 12 grandchildren. Martha was the oldest of nine children. Her surviving brothers and sisters are James Clark, Patricia Grimes, Virginia Nantz, William Clark, Sharon Barnes, Daniel Clark, Ronald Clark and Michael Clark. The viewing will be at Cheer's Community on 20520 Sandhill Road, Georgetown, (302) 854-9500, on Thursday, Dec. 16, 2010, from 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, you can make a contribution to St Martha's Episcopal Church in Bethany Beach or the Charity of your choice in memory of Martha. She will be buried at Lincoln Memorial Park in Aurora, Ill. Arrangements handled by Short Funeral Services, Georgetown.
