HARRINGTON - Marjorie Ann "Aunt Marjie" O'Day, age 94, of Harrington, went to be with the Lord on Aug. 11, 2009. Marjorie was born Nov. 23, 1914, in Brooklyn, N.Y. She spent the majority of her childhood living in Hempstead, N.Y. Later on she moved to Maryland in 1945 with her husband James O'Day. She then moved to Delaware in 1974 where she resided for the remainder of her life. She was employed at the Harrington Shirt Factory from 1974 until she retired in 1979. Following her retirement she stayed with her "adopted" family (The Foy's) and spent most of her time caring for them. Marjorie had a strong devotion to her family, friends, and church. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Burrsville, Md., for nearly 35 years, and would spend hours reading the Bible or her favorite prayers on a daily basis. Marjorie became known to most people as "Aunt Marjie." To some people she felt like a friend, and to others like a grandmother. To her "adopted" family, she was like an angel sent from God to take care of and watch over them. She was a thoughtful and caring person who always put the needs of others before herself. She was greatly loved and will be missed by all, especially her "adopted" family. Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband, James O'Day; her parents, Francis "Frank" C. and Mary Louise Cornell; and her sisters, Lillian Flintspack, Ilene Goff, and Amy Cantwell. She is survived by her sister, Virginia Cornell of Georgetown; a nephew and his family, John, Lynn, and Kacie Goff of Florida; two nieces, Nancy Osborne of New York, and Amy Cacchillo of Florida; several great-nieces and great-nephews; her "adopted" family, Sandy and Charles Foy of Harrington, Kenny, Cierra, Laura, and K.J. Foy of Farmington, Jamie, A.J., and Maxine Foy of Greenwood, Kelly Foy and David Callahan of Newark, Victoria Oberdick of Felton, Jerry and Josie Hayman of Harrington, Sheldon and Bettie Hayman of Milford, and Dallas and Pat Hayman of Houston. Services will be 2 p.m., Friday, Aug. 14, at Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 S. DuPont Hwy., Harrington, where a visitation will be one hour prior. Interment will be in Wesley Church Cemetery, Burrsville, Md.
