Marie Gibson Rhodes

CHURCH HILL, Md. - Marie Gibson Rhodes, 82, of Church Hill, Md., passed away on March 28, 2011, in Safe Haven Manor, Sudlersville, Md. Mrs. Rhodes was born on Feb. 11, 1929, daughter of the late Rueben and Pearl McGinnis Gibson. She was raised in Chestertown and graduated from Chestertown High School in 1946. A lifelong resident of Church Hill, a lady who enjoyed her family, friends and pets. She was the owner and operator of the Craft Shed in Rock Hall where she sold her quilts and crocheted afghans. Marie donated many handmade items to local charities, hospitals and community organizations. She was a member of Queen Anne's County Quilters Guild. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Francis "Gibby" Gibson, and Robert Gibson. Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Col. Ross Rhodes; her children, Ross Rhodes, Jr. and wife Karen, Lynda R. Hall and husband Jimmy, Dawn R. Ventress and husband Bill, Greg Rhodes and wife Melinda, and Marie Huffer; her grandchildren, Jamie Hall, April Barczewski, Tina Rhodes, Ryan Middleton, Gregory Rhodes, Lyle Hammer, Dylan Huffer, and Melyn Rhodes; and a great-granddaughter, Abigail Middleton. Friends may call on Friday, April 1 from 6 to 8 p.m., in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St., Galena, Md., where funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 2, at 11 a.m. Burial in Church Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to; Church Hill Vol. Fire Dept., Church Hill United Methodist Church, Chester River Home Care and Hospice; or Safe Haven Manor. www.galenafuneralhomeofsls.com
