Marie E. Petty, 85

DOVER - Marie E. Petty of Dover was called to rest on Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2008, in her home, surrounded by family and friends. She was 85.

She was born Jan. 22, 1923, in Nurnberg, Germany, daughter of the late Johann Ludwig Friedrich and Kunigunde (Winkelmann) Egkert.

Marie came to Biloxi, Miss., in 1951, and moved to Dover in 1957.

She managed Heaven to Eleven at the Blue Hen Mall for many years, later worked at R. Fox, and until recently, worked with her daughter at Peppermill Pantry.

Marie enjoyed music, theater, knitting and crocheting. She also loved traveling to Germany to visit with her family.

Wherever she went, she was known to all as "Oma."

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, William C. Petty; and a daughter, Karin B. Franklin.

She is survived by a son, William Petty Jr. and his wife Betty; a daughter, Anita L. Rash and her husband Mikel; a son-in-law, John A. Franklin; seven grandchildren, Michelle L. Burgess, Vickie Ebaugh, Robert M. Franklin, Maria Weiss, Erik Petty, Amanda L. MacDonald and Jessica M. Rash; and four great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden.

Contributions may be made in her memory to the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center, 4701 Ogletown-Stanton Road, Newark, DE 19713-2055.
