Marian Ella Simmons

SKINNERS NECK, Md. - Marian Ella Simmons, of Skinners Neck in Rock Hall, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011, at her home. She was 90. Marian E. Simmons was born April 6, 1920, in Philadelphia, Pa., the daughter of the late John F. Beuerle and Marian Lasch Beuerle. Mrs. Simmons graduated from Frankford High School. She and her husband owned and operated a marina in Wildwood, N.J., for 25 years prior to moving to Rock Hall. Marian was an award winning artist. She was a member of the Chestertown Art League, the Davis Yacht Club, the Rock Hall Yacht Club, and commodore of the Chestertown Yacht and Country Club, making her the first woman commodore on the Eastern Shore. She was past president of the Rock Hall Garden Club, Member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and sat on the vestry board, Past president of the Episcopal Church Women, served 9 years on the board of the Wye College Art Council, and a member of the Eastern Shore Wildlife Association. Marian enjoyed art, gardening, and reading. Marian was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Walter A. Simmons in 2002. She is survived by one son, Walter J. Simmons and wife Arlene of Martinsburg, W.Va.; two grandchildren, Dawn Lynch and her husband J.P. Lynch of Martinsburg, W.Va., and W. Neal Simmons and his wife Rebecca Simmons of Durham, N.C.; and four great-grandchildren, Anna and Emma Lynch, Ella and Emily Simmons. Services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2011, at 1 p.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Chestertown. Interment will follow the service in St. Paul's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions can be sent to the Humane Society of Kent County, P.O. Box 352 Chestertown, MD 21620 or to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 7579 Sandy Bottom Rd, Chestertown, MD 21620.
