Marguerite Rogers Hill, 89
LEWES - Marguerite Rogers Hill of Lewes died of injuries sustained in an automobile accident Monday, Nov. 27, 2006, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. She was 89.
Mrs. Hill was born in Georgetown, daughter of the late Edward and Bertie (Ellingsworth) Rogers.
She was a graduate of Georgetown High School.
Mrs. Hill worked at Fort Miles, Lewes, as a telephone operator during World War II.
She was a homemaker and devoted wife and mother. After her 55 year marriage, she lived in Philadelphia, Lewes, Durham, N.C., and Georgetown.
Whether innate or learned, Mrs. Hill spoke her mind often and freely. She enjoyed "having a talking time" with whomever she encountered. All marveled at the possession of the faculties she still possessed. Her family and relatives fondly remember summer holidays at her home on Dewey Avenue, Lewes, and her love of the beach.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Lee Hill Jr.; a son, Arthur Lee Hill III, who suffered for 12 years before succumbing to his illness and to whom she ministered tenderly; a sister, Doris Taylor; a brother, Henry Rogers; two sister-in-laws, Ruth Rogers and Elaine Rogers; and her companion, Edgar Polite.
Mrs. Hill is survived by a brother, Edward "Snooky" Rogers of Georgetown; two grandchildren, A. Lee Hill IV of Cary, N.C., and Jeffrey R. Hill of Atlanta; and two great-grandchildren, Taylor Hill of Cary, N.C. and Dunning Hill of Cary, N.C.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday in the Lewes Presbyterian Church with burial following in the adjoining church cemetery.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Lewes Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 612, Lewes, DE 19958, or a charity of choice.
Arrangements by Melson Funeral Services, Long Neck.
