Margaret Virginia Vanderwende

Margaret Virginia Vanderwende, 77

SMYRNA - Margaret Virginia Vanderwende, of Smyrna, died Saturday, March 7, 2009, in the Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill in Smyrna. She was 77. Mrs. Vanderwende was born June 26, 1931, in Greenwood, to the late Charles and Eva Smith. She worked in a shirt factory, a stocking factory, International Playtex, Dempsey's Restaurant in Greenwood, and at Kent and Sussex Industries. She enjoyed playing Bingo, bowling, the senior center, and especially spending time with her family. She truly enjoyed the simple things in life. She will be deeply and dearly missed. She accepted Jesus as her Savior and served the Lord for many years. She trusted HIM for all of her needs. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Gina Vanderwende; a great-grandson, Jeff Vanderwende; and three brothers, Lawrence, Melvin and Nelson Smith. She is survived by two sons, Brice G. Vanderwende and his wife Nancy of Dover, and Donald R. Vanderwende of Magnolia; one daughter, Hope Borchers of Magnolia; six grandchildren, Glenda, Donna, Donnie Jr., Eryn, Julie and Shelby; three great-grandchildren, Peggy, Kevin and Ian; and two sisters, Thelma Warrington of Lewes, and Ermadine Starkey of Clayton. Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Thursday, March 12, at Torbert Funeral Chapel Downtown, 61 S. Bradford St., Dover, where friends may call one hour prior. Interment will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden.
