DOVER - Margaret "Peg" Schwarz Ward born in Savannah, Ga., in 1920, died Oct. 24, at Kent General Hospital in Dover. She would have celebrated her 91st birthday on Oct. 28. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas F. Ward; and her grandson, John Alden Kraft. Peg, the devoted wife of a career USAF spouse, gracefully handled numerous geographical moves in the US and abroad. A devoted mother, she taught her children to value learning and to strive for excellence. She was an avid reader whose wit, intellect and charm won her the admiration and affection of many. She enjoyed gardening, and was an excellent cook. She gave unselfishly of time and resources, and will be remembered by friends as a loving mentor who provided a listening heart and wise counsel. A staunchly independent spirit, Peg remained sharp in mind and memory throughout her senior years. Her desire to help others was manifested in her volunteer work for the United Cerebral Palsy Association, the Assoc. for the Blind, the Red Cross and as a Grey Lady at D.A.F.B. hospital. She also was a faithful member of Holy Cross Catholic Church. In her 50's, Peg returned to school, graduating with honors from DE Technical and Community College with a degree in Sociology. She maintained an A average, was on the Dean's List and was awarded the Paul J. Kessler Humanism Award in 1983. Peg embraced life and enjoyed people from diverse cultures. She was truly a citizen of the world. She is survived by son, Marc A. Ward (Mary Patricia Ward) of Tega Cay, S.C.; daughter, Margaret Jude Kolenc (formerly of Pittsburgh, Pa.) Dover; grandson, Marc E. Savard of Charlotte, N.C.; and granddaughter, Suzanne Marie Kraft of Pittsburgh. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m., today, Wednesday, Oct. 26, at the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, where prayers will be observed at 7:30 p.m. Her life will be celebrated with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 27, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 631 S. State St., Dover. Burial will be at a later date in Pittsburgh, Pa. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Joseph's Indian School, c/o Fr.
