FELTON - Margaret Nicholls passed away on Thursday, June 7, 2018 at Bayhealth Kent General in Dover. She was born in Louisville, Ky. to the late Lloyd and Margaret (Hall) Hutchcraft on Aug. 9, 1921.
In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded by her husband, Jesse Nicholls in 1971; three daughters, Sandra Nicholls, Brenda Moore, Gail Kemp; her son, Ron Nicholls; a granddaughter, Sandra Pearson; a son-in-law, Tim Kemp; two sisters, Ruth Wagner and Mildred Will; and one brother, Lloyd Hutchcraft.
She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Wininger and her husband, Joe, of Viola, and Terri Harrington and her husband, Butch of Felton; daughter-in-law, Joan Nicholls of Frederica; siblings, Mable McKenna and William Hutchcraft, both of Louisville, Ky.; six grandchildren, Audrey, Craig, Brett, Billy, Leigh, Jessica; 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; and special friends, Carol and John.
Margaret retired from National Cup Company in Dover and was previously an active member of the Harrington Senior Center. Early in life, she enjoyed bowling, softball, walking, gardening, wood working, being outdoors, and spending time with family and friends.
Margaret had a lively spirit and was never one for holding back her words. If you wanted an opinion, there was never a need to ask. She was a strong woman who raised her children on her own and her life was a reflection of her love and devotion to her family.
For the past eight years, Margaret was a resident of Silver Lake Center in Dover. The family wishes to acknowledge all staff members who enhanced her life. When her health allowed, she enjoyed being outside, taking bus trips for ice cream and shopping, exercise, playing poker and bingo, arts and crafts, watching the birds and squirrels from her window, and sitting in the sun wherever she could find it. She could frequently be found taking care of other residents and directing others on how it should be done. Margaret had a special relationship with her main caregivers, Debbie and Melissa, and loved many others.
Her family is deeply comforted knowing that Margaret is free from the ravages of dementia and is Margaret once again. Her beautiful smile will be missed.
A time of visitation will take place in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, 217 East Main Street, Felton, on Sunday, June 10, 2018 from 6 pm – 8 pm. Graveside services are private.
