MILFORD - Margaret M. McPhail passed away on Friday, February 5, 2021. Margaret was born in Edinburgh, Scotland on August 30, 1937 to the late Helen and Frederick Owens.
Margaret immigrated to the US at the age of 17 to pursue a career as an au pair in San Francisco, CA. A few years later, she enlisted in the US Navy and served as a hospital corpsman. During this time she met and married her husband, Bill, and started a family. After her 5 kids got older, Margaret went to college to pursue her BSN degree in nursing and graduated from Delaware State College (Univ.) in 1982. She had a varied and versatile career working in nursing homes, visiting nurse associations and multiple hospitals throughout Delaware. She retired from Milford Memorial in 2001. Margaret enjoyed traveling, cooking, gardening and spending time with her grandkids and great grandkids.
Margaret was preceded in death by her daughter, Patricia McPhail, and her sister, Brenda Owens.
Margaret is survived by her husband of 62.5 years, William; three sons of Dover, Scott, Patrick and wife, Paula, Bill and wife, Patty, of Camden and two daughters, Maureen Daugherty and husband, Kevin, of Felton and Paula Petracca and husband, Richard of Middle Island, NY.
Margaret also leaves behind eleven grandchildren, Heather Gedney and husband, Chris, Jessica Sawyer, Brandon Daugherty, Chris Daugherty, Danny Sawyer, Nichole Sawyer, Christopher McPhail and wife, Loren, Justin McPhail and wife, Erica, Tyler McPhail and wife, Idalis, and Connor and Quinn McPhail. As well as four great grandchildren, Kenzie and Cole Gedney and Adilee and Silas McPhail.
Services will be held on Sunday, February 14, 2021 at 3 p.m. at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 1145 E. Lebanon Rd (Rt. 10), Dover. Friends may call two hours prior.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions go to Delaware Hospice Memorial, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
