INDIANTOWN - Margaret Ellen Sheltra, wife of the late Joseph R. Sheltra, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2017 at Okeechobee Health Care Facility. Born June 26, 1926 in Newport, Vt., she was the daughter of the late Claude Erwin and Ruth Bessie (Edmunds) Smith. Mrs. Sheltra moved to Indiantown from New Haven, Conn., in 1962. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Indiantown. Prior to suffering from age related vision loss, she enjoyed gardening, baking, reading and knitting. She loved her family and friends and was known for keeping track of her large extended family in her birthday book. She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Gail Marie Beach; and her siblings, Wallace Fred Smith, Helen Eva Bessett, Charlotte Viola Bousquet, and Lucy May Bousquet. She is survived by her grandchildren, Ralph E. Beach, III (Vero Beach), Joanne Beach Roberts (Indiantown), and Kimberly Beach (Okeechobee); and her great-grandchildren, Daniel Beach (Stuart) and Reganne Beach (Okeechobee). She is also survived by her sister, Esther Watson (101), of Canton, Maine; her surrogate daughter, Ruth Sweeney, of Newport, Vt.; and many nieces and nephews. Flowers are welcome or memorial contributions may be sent to Holy Cross Catholic Church, 15939 SW 150th St., Indiantown, FL 34956. Visitation will be Saturday, Jan. 28, 2017 at Buxton & Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home from 9 a.m. until Catholic prayer service at 11 a.m. Private interment will be at Port Mayaca Cemetery.
