
DOVER - Margaret Ann Short passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at Kent General Hospital.
Mrs. Short was born on Nov. 2, 1927 in New Castle and raised by the late James and Ellen Gravel Duncan.
Mrs. Short was a graduate of Conrad High School, the Delaware Hospital School of Nursing and was a member of United States Cadet Nurses Core. She worked for Capital School District as a nurse for 25 years, retiring in 1993 and then continued to work as a substitute nurse an additional 20 years until 2013. Mrs. Short was a member of DFRC, the ARC of Delaware and Wesley United Methodist Church. She enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, being a greeter at her church, travelling, going to the beach, reading, playing cards and crossword puzzles. Many of her students have expressed appreciation for how well they were treated by Mrs. Short during her four decades of tenure as a school nurse.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, C. Stanley Short, Jr.; and son, Clifton S. Short, III.
She is survived by her son, James D. Short (Beth) of Dover; daughters, Diane Soligo (Anthony) of Dover and Deborah Hyde of Waterford, Mich.; daughter-in-law, Donna Short of Dover; grandchildren, Michael and Matt Hyde of Waterford, Mich., AJ Soligo of Newark, Megan Harris of Hampton, Va., Andrea Ascencio of Annapolis, Md., Kyle Short of Prescott, Ariz., Joshua and Amy Short of Dover; and eight great-grandchildren with two more expected in August.
Memorial services will be held 12 p.m., Monday, April 23, 2018 at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. Friends may call one hour prior. Interment will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Dover.
