Marc Charles Ostroff
SILVER SPRING - Marc Charles Ostroff, known professionally for many years as Marc Fisher, died on Aug. 31, 2023. Marc lived in Dover, Delaware, for more than 20 years before moving to Maryland to be closer to family.
Marc was born Sept. 14, 1951, to Morris and Glenora Ostroff in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, and grew up in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
He attended East Brunswick High School and the Ohio State University, where he was active protesting against the Vietnam War and rooting against Michigan. He met Diane Sarah Straus in Columbus, Ohio, and the pair lived in Logan, West Virginia-to their chagrin-and Bloomington, Indiana-to their delight-before settling in Dover. They married in 1983 and after their divorce remained united in their love for their daughter, Hannah.
Marc's involvement with the Delaware community started with his work as a radio host. On air as "the Fishman," he engaged listeners with his humor and devotion to Baby Hannah-a moniker that stuck well into her teenage years. His passion for the area and its people led him to volunteer with several causes, including the American Heart Association, and to start his own marketing and PR business. After many years running Fisher Media Services, Marc led the nonprofit foundation St. Joseph's Center for Community Service.
Around town, Marc could often be found cracking jokes at a Chamber of Commerce event, showing off his legs riding his bicycle, or cheering loudly for his daughter wherever she appeared on stage. He loved music, revisiting his flair for the drums late in life, as well as photography and cooking without a recipe.
Marc leaves behind his daughter, Hannah Ostroff and her husband Nick Starr of Falls Church, Virginia; brother, Edward Ostroff and his wife Laura of Manchester, New Jersey; and sister, Edie Brooks of Saint David, Maine.
A funeral service for family was held Sept. 5 at Beth Israel Cemetery in Woodbridge Township, New Jersey, with arrangements provided by Torchinsky Hebrew Funeral Home in Washington, D.C.
Condolences can be sent to Hannah at 3105 Collie Lane, Falls Church, Virginia, 22044.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Heart Association or the Schwartz Center for the Arts.
