Malorie Ann Drake Derby

GEORGETOWN - Malorie Ann Drake Derby departed this mortal realm April 16, 2016 to be with her Lord and Savior. Malorie loved Jesus and lived her faith daily from an early age. Loving daughter, big sister, wife, mother, grandmother she was also a great friend, teacher and mentor to many. Malorie walked out her faith in the community by helping to start the Sussex Pregnancy Care Center and Abundant Life Church. A pioneering homeschooler in Sussex County she was instrumental in founding King's Kids Academy, a Christian homeschooling private school. Malorie's teacher's heart was exhibited in venues outside of home- schooling when she hosted both radio and television shows on local Christian stations. A frequent Bible study teacher and guest speaker, Malorie started A Great Company, LLC as a ministry to women. After graduating from Wm Penn H.S. she attended and graduated from the University of Delaware graduating with a BA. Later she attended Delaware State University and received a Masters Degree. While at the University of Delaware Malorie met and married her husband and best friend of 48 years, Brian C. Derby. They have a son, Nathan; and a daughter, Michal. After her "career" as a homeschool teacher, Malorie entered the professional work force as an Adult Education Teacher / Administrator where she thoroughly enjoyed watching her students blossom. Malorie was subsequently able to move up to a position with the State of Delaware Department of Education, Adult Education Division, where she continued to make a difference. Malorie is survived by her loving husband, Brian; son, Nathan and wife, Jennifer; and granddaughters, Ella, Morgan and Samantha; daughter; Michal and her husband; Tim. Surviving siblings include, Markie, Marshall, Morgan, and Mathew; along with their respective spouses and children. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at Crossroad Community Church, 20684 State Forest Rd., Georgetown. The church will be open at 12:30 p.m. and the service will begin at 1:30 p.m. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Sussex Pregnancy Care Center, 5 Burger King Dr., Georgetown, DE 19947. Arrangements in the care of Short Funeral Services, Georgetown.
