Major Warren B. Wade

DOVER - Major Warren B. Wade of Dover, passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2016. He was 94 years old. Mr. Wade was born August 22, 1921 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Scot Wade and Dorothy Crosson Wade. Warren enlisted in the Army Air Corp in 1940 at the age of 19. During WWII, he piloted a Martin B-26 Bomber in the European Theater completing 59 bombing missions and receiving many medals and commendations which included the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal. He continued his career in the Air Force after WWII and was stationed at many AF bases in the USA and abroad. After serving 23 years in the USAF he chose to return Dover to retire in 1963. Shortly after retiring he was owner/operator of a seafood restaurant which he named The 20/10. After several years he then returned to Base Operations at DAFB as a Civil Service employee doing the same job he did in the military. Upon retirement from Civil Service his summers were spent with family at his residence on Rehoboth Bay where he enjoyed crabbing, windsurfing and long naps on his pontoon boat. In the winter he and his wife motor homed to Florida to visit friends and soak up the warm temperatures. At the age of 80, after retiring his windsurf boards he took up ice skating utilizing the skating rinks at Harrington in the winter and at the University of Delaware in the summer. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and his wife of 55 years, Marion R. Wade. Survivors include daughter, Jo Ann Wade Monroe and her husband, John of Hampton, Va.; and daughter, Jacquelyn Messick Hastings of Camden, Del; grandsons, Michael, Jon and Christopher Messick and Michael John Monroe; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. A memorial service with full military honors will be held at The Delaware Veterans Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE 19701 at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 19, 2016. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675 Letters of condolences may be sent and guest book signed at www.torbertfuneral.com.
