Madeline Elizabeth (Griffin) Ennis, 82
SEAFORD - Madeline Elizabeth (Griffin) Ennis of Seaford passed away Sunday, June 10, 2007, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford. She was 82.
She was born Dec. 15, 1924, in Temperanceville, Va., daughter of the late Henry Griffin and Tealie Griffin Justice.
Madeline received her education in Temperanceville-area schools.
She retired from the Campbell Soup Co., Salisbury, Md., after 26 years of dedicated service.
A life-long member of St. Matthew"s First Baptist Church, Madeline served as president of the Ushers Board and enjoyed singing in the choir. She was an active member of the church for over 50 years.
She enjoyed gardening, baking and spending time with family and friends.
Madeline was loved by all who know her and was revered for her fairness, honesty and generosity, helping many in her community throughout her lifetime.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dallas Ennis; 11 brothers and sisters; and a stepson, Wilson "Buddy" Ennis.
She is survived by three children, Betty (Griffin) Cannon of Laurel, Eben Griffin and his wife Licia of England, and Delores (Ennis) Dixon of Seaford; one stepdaughter, Doreen Gumby of Laurel; 25 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Leona Glenn of Toms River, N.J.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Matthew"s First Baptist Church, Wolfe Street, Laurel, with a viewing at the church from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. The Rev. Nathan McCoy will officiate.
Burial will be in the St. Matthew"s cemetery.
Arrangements are being handled by Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Seaford.
