MILFORD - Madeline D. Tebbens, 93, of Milford, died Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010, at home surrounded by her family. Mrs. Tebbens was born in Wilmington, the daughter of the late Lewis and Gladys (Dickerson) Davis. Madeline graduated from the Milford Hospital School of Nursing in 1938 as a Registered Nurse. She worked at Milford Memorial Hospital for 45 years in Labor and Delivery before retiring in 1987. Madeline was a former member of the Delaware Nurses' Association and the Nurses Association American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. In 1979, because of Madeline's concern and contributions in the field of nursing, the Delaware Nurses' Association selected her as one of the six finalists for the first Nurse of the Year Award. She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Milford, a member of Calvary's Ladies Circle and the Milford Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She loved to read and enjoyed traveling with her late husband Ben. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernhard J. "Ben" Tebbens in 2000, and a son Bernhard D. "Ben" Tebbens in 2001. She is survived by three daughters, Barbara Ellis, of Dover, Sandra Parker, of Harrington, and Carol Calvert and her husband Jim, of Milford; one son, Robert Tebbens and his wife Teresa of Seaford; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two devoted caregivers Hope Ibeanu and Ruth Moore. Funeral services will be 12 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2010 at the Lofland Funeral Home, 102 Lakeview Avenue, Milford, where friends may call from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to either Calvary United Methodist Church, 301 S.E. Front Street, Milford, DE 19963 or to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
