Mable Laura O'Neal

LAUREL - Mable Laura (McClements) O'Neal passed away peacefully on Thursday, Mar. 30, 2017, at Seaford Center following a short Illness. She was the second child and oldest daughter of the late Joseph and Laura Drake McClements of Smyrna, born at home on Feb. 17, 1923.
She began her florist career at the age of 18 at Vane's Florist in Dover, located on the property now occupied by Dover Downs Speedway. She also worked for Cook and Smith Florist in Dover in the 1950's. On December 7, 1952, she married Andrew Cless O'Neal of Laurel and the two opened their own business, O'Neals Florist in Laurel in 1960. Her husband died in 1966 and she continued to operate the business until she retired in 2006 at the age of 83.
Mrs. O'Neal was very active in the Capital Grange in Dover and Broad Creek Grange in Laurel. She and her husband began the Delaware State Fair Grange Booth in the early 1960s. She was part of many degree installation teams and produced several state Grange prince and princess contests.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Joseph McClements, Jr. and Gilbert McClements, both of Smryna, Albert McClements, of Dover and baby Edward McClements; and two sisters, Mildred Evans, of Wilmington and a baby sister.
She is survived by a son, Joseph C. O'Neal and wife, Annelle, of Laurel; a daughter, Carolyn with whom she lived; two grandsons, Andrew J. O'Neal and wife, Crystal, of Bethel and Randall E. O'Neal and wife, Laurie, of Seaford; and five great-grandchildren, Isaac, Samuel, Paige, Ava and Henry; one brother, Laurence McClements, of Kenton; and a sister, Mary Evans, of Elkton, Md.
A Funeral Service will be held at the Hannigan, Short, Disharoon Funeral Home in Laurel, on Monday, Apr. 3, 2017, at 1 p.m., a viewing will be held from 12 to 1 p.m. The Pastor Fern Kester will officiate. Interment will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
