MILFORD - Mabel Mary Martin went to be with the Lord Sunday, Oct. 28, 2018 at Milford Center Nursing Home in Milford.
Mabel (May) was born in Chicago, Ill. the daughter of the late Henry and Mabel Schafer. After moving to Milford from Highpoint, N.C. in 1967 she worked in the cafeteria of the Milford Middle School for many years before retiring as a homemaker to raise her four children. She was a faithful member of Reformation Lutheran Church. She enjoyed working on jigsaw puzzles, word search and crossword puzzles, playing cards, bingo, bowling and cooking especially desserts.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel R Martin; a son-in-law, Joseph W. Griffith; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Martin; two brothers, Douglas and Harry Schafer; and two sister-in-laws, Anna Mae and June Schafer.
Mabel is survived by her son, Samuel R. "Bob" Martin Jr. and his partner Wilma Besnoska; three daughters, Elizabeth "Betty" Lewis and her husband Jay, Carol Collins and her husband Tom, Sandra Fox and her husband Duane, all of Milford; 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2018 at Reformation Lutheran Church, 613 Lakeview Ave, Milford.
