LINCOLN - Lurdy Wimer passed away Wednesday, April, 30 2014 at Bay Health Medical Center, Milford. He was born on May 2, 1924 in Franklin W.Va., the son of the late Adam and Eliza (Whetzel) Wimer. He served in the US Army, during World War II, from 1943 to 1946. Lurdy was an airplane and engine mechanic, supply clerk and electrician. He worked for Asplund Tree Co. in Maryland. Then he went to the District Government in Washington where he was supervisor. Lurdy eventually moved to Delaware and worked for the City of Milford for many years. He loved fishing and enjoyed working in his yard. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Betty C. Wimer; and his youngest son, Michael W. Wimer. He was the eldest of all his siblings, out living his seven brothers and sisters. He is survived by seven children, Robert Wimer and wife, Suzanne Barber, David Wimer and wife, Carey, James Wimer and wife, Helen, Patricia Dickerson (caregiver) and husband, Donald, Diana Messick and husband, Francis, Betty Jean Wisseman and husband, Doc, and Barbara Watkins, and her little black dog, Sophie. He will be sadly missed by his companion, Buddy. Lurdy is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank everyone who helped take care of Dad through the years and a special thanks to the doctors and nurses of the Milford Hospital ICU Unit. Funeral Service will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday May 3, 2014 in the chapel of Berry Short Funeral Home, 119 NW Front Street, Milford Delaware, where friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for a viewing. Interment will be Milford Community Cemetery, Milford, DE.
