HARTLY - Ludwig F. Schweitzer, III passed away on May 25, 2014 at the age of 66. Louie was a Vietnam veteran who was awarded the Purple Heart in May of 1968 for wounds received in action. He later served his community as the Mayor of Hartly, as well as owning and operating Schweitzer's Tavern, and was a lifetime member of the Hartly Fire Company. He enjoyed his motorcycles, gardening, collecting, and reading his daily newspapers. He is preceded in death by his father, Ludwig F. Schweitzer, II; and his mother, Myrtle Virginia Schweitzer. He is survived by his two daughters, Kristina A. Schweitzer, of Hartly, and Konstance Stacey Wright of Landenberg, Pa.; three grandsons, Ryan, Sean and TJ, also of Landenberg, Pa.; He is also survived by his sister, Marylou Bentley and her husband, David, of Hartly; three nieces; and two nephews, Kimberlea, Krystal, Karin, Jacob and Daniel. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 29, 2014 at Torbert Funeral Home, 61 S. Bradford Street, Dover, DE. Friends may call one hour prior. Interment will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Chapter 850 Vietnam Veterans of America, PO Box 1718, Dover Delaware 19903.
